Rev. William L. Scott, Jr., age 72, of Dothan, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021.


W. L. Scott, Jr. was born on August 3, 1948 to the late W. L. Scott, Sr. and Mary Lou Tillman in Amarillo, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended St. Martin Catholic School and Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas before transferring to Texas Borger High School and finishing at Booker T. Washington in Borger, Texas. He joined the United States Army and served his country until he retired. W. L. started working at an early age washing dishes at the Chat and Chew in Borger, TX. He was a porter for Rock Island passenger train and also worked for Bell Helicopter and Phillips Refinery.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Gloria Parkinson-Scott; his parents, W. L. Scott, Sr. and Mary Lou Tillman-Scott-Daniels; stepmother, Dorothy Jean; stepfather, Levie Daniels; grandparents, Lacy and Lottie Williams Tillman, Roberta Tillman Shaw (William), L. B. and Essie Lee Scott; brothers, Johnnie Lee, L. B. Scott, Sr. and Christopher Scott; son, Thomas Parkinson IV; aunts and uncles, George Tillman, K. P. Tillman, Winifred Conict, Leonard Mason, Odell Scott, Hattie Bell Scott, Joe Scott, Charles Scott, and Margaret Tillman Monroe; nephews, Martin Charles Boney, Mikko Daniels, and Cepado Fisher.


He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lucretia Johnson-Scott; sons, Derrick (Roslyn) Mitchell, John (Linda) Parkinson and Jerry L. Johnson III; daughters, Deona Roberson, Veronica Robinson, Jeanita Burton, and Cynthia Johnson; brothers, Martin Scott, Jerry Cunningham, Willie K. Scott, Carl Scott and Michael Scott; sisters, Mary Beatty, Nina Scott, Cynthia (Milton) Demus, Gwendolyn Fisher, Janie Daniels, Teresa (James) Bryant and Levelda Wallace; uncles, Robert (Wilma) Tillman, L. T. Tillman, Robert (Linda) Tillman and Bobby Tillman; aunts, Helen (Robert) Moore, Marie Sherwood, Loraine (Jasper) Carden, Mary Penns and Joyce Phillips; mother-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy C. Robinson and brothers-in-law, Demetrius Carter and Donald Robinson; sister-in-law, Eula Robinson and nephew, Charles Henry Carter; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. W. L. Scott’s legacy of love continues through his loving family with a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and numerous friends.


A graveside service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Memory Hill Cemetery.
