Rex Lee Elmore, a resident of Gordon, AL passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at a local hospital. He was 66 years old.


Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James B. Sanders, III officiating. Military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 2:30-4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.


Mr. Elmore was born September 11, 1951 in Houston County and resided in Dothan the early part of his life. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as an auto mechanic and later with Hedstrom and Sam’s Club where he spent the past 25 years until his recent retirement in February of 2017. Rex has been a resident of Gordon for the past 27 years and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time. He was a big University of Alabama Crimson Roll Tide fan.


Survivors include his daughters, Kristy (John) Gordon and Marci Rivera; grandchildren, Tristen Elmore, Jalen Rivera, Anna Klaire Knighton, and Sarah Gordon; brothers, Kenny Elmore, Raymond Elmore, Larry Elmore, and William Hilson; sisters, Carolyn Johnson and Belinda Bodiford; several nieces and nephews also survive.
