RICHARD  B.  LITTLEFIELD



HEADLAND. . .Richard B. Littlefield, a resident of the Tumbleton Community of Henry County, died early Monday morning, April 28, 2014, at his home. He was 76.


            Funeral services will be held at 4:30 P.M. (C.D.T.) Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Thomas Kirkland and Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Tom Chestnut officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:30 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL 36303, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, or to the New Zion Free Will Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o David Teat 10033 County Road 47, Shorterville, AL 36373.


            Richard Littlefield was a native of the Tumbleton Community and formerly lived in Columbus, Georgia, and Memphis, Tennessee before returning to Tumbleton in 1982. Richard served his country ten years in the U. S. Army, including sixteen months in Korea. He was a member of the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church. Richard owned and operated several businesses during his lifetime. Before his retirement, he owned and operated Richard’s Trucking Company for twelve years. In earlier years, Richard served as a police officer in the motorcycle division in Columbus, Georgia.


            Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard Beaman Littlefield, Sr.; two daughters, Susan Elaine Littlefield and Sharon Jane Littlefield; nephew, Holly Clenney; step-father, Harvey Shelley; and mother, Birdie Littlefield Shelley.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of thirty-one years, Theresa Littlefield of the Tumbleton Community; two sons, Alan Littlefield (Robin), Wetumpka, AL and Brandon Littlefield (Leila), Covington, TN; two sisters, Marie Carroll, Blue Springs, AL and Mavis Savage, Cleveland, GA; three brothers-in-law, Earl Salter (Christine), Millington, TN, Mike Salter, Foley, AL and Aaron Salter, Albany, GA; three grandchildren, Kyler, Nathan, and Eli Littlefield; several special nieces including, Nichol Salter and Samantha Salter, several special nephews including, Rodney Williams, and numerous cousins.


            To those who knew Richard, he was kind and caring. He loved God, his family and friends. The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice for their loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Littlefield and his family during his illness.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Rodney Williams, Travis Williams, Malcolm Kemp, George Lewis, Jordan Lewis, and Chuck Richards. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his special friends, Bob Shelley, O’Neal Shelley (Delane), Tom Shelley (Miriam), Carl Shelley (Sue), Pete Shelley (May), Katie Shelley, and Ronny Shelley.
