FT. GAINES, GEORGIA. . .Richard Hudspeth Wood, a resident of Ft. Gaines, Georgia, died early Thursday morning, March 1, 2012, in the Dogwood Manor Assisted Living in Abbeville. He was 97.


 


            Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Monday, March 5, 2012, in the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with Pastor Martin Loyley officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:30 P.M. Monday at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur, Georgia.


 


            A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. (EST), Saturday, March 10, 2012, in the Ft. Gaines United Methodist Church with Pastor Martin Loyley officiating.


 


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn University College of Engineering, Suite 1320, Shelby Center, Auburn University, Alabama 36849 or to the United Methodist Children’s Home, 500 South Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA 30030.


 


            Mr. Wood was born and reared in Abbeville, Alabama, son of the late Nicholas Crawford Wood and Besse Hudspeth Wood. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Wood was a graduate of the Auburn University College of Engineering. He was retired as an Electrical Engineer from Georgia Power in Atlanta and as long as his health permitted, was active in the Ambassadors, a Georgia Power retirement group. Mr. Wood lived most of his lifetime in Avondale Estates, Georgia with his beloved wife, Evelyn.  He was affiliated with the Ft. Gaines United Methodist Church.


 


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Evelyn Robinson Wood, a resident of Ft. Gaines and also the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville; a sister, Mishie Wood Killebrew, Ft. Gaines, GA; a niece, Besse Killebrew Mills and husband, Bill; and Amy Robinson Brown and husband, Terry; a nephew, Jimmy Robinson and wife, Marsha; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
