Richard Blackwell, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday, February 25, 2023, at his home. He was 69.


Mr. Blackwell was born December 5, 1953 in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late Phillip Dean Blackwell Sr. and Betty Grey Huffines Blackwell. He moved to Newton, Alabama at a very young age. He graduated from Dale County High School in 1971, and played the drums in the band. Richard served in the United States Airforce and earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Troy University. He then went on to start his own business, Blackwell Heating and Cooling and Electrical, in 1992-2020.


Richard loved his children and was so very proud of them. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, building, horse back riding, water skiing, golf, music, and Alabama Football (Roll Tide Roll).


He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Denise Marie Blackwell; brother, Phillip Dean (Zeny) Blackwell Jr.; sons, Richard I. (Cassie) Blackwell Jr. and Christopher Chad (Tiffany) Blackwell; and daughter, Rebecca C.(Jericho) Wilson; his grandchildren, Caleb Mark, Katelyn Ann Blackwell, and Jackson Rae Wilson; his nephews, Phillip, Stephen, and Robbie Blackwell; his niece, Kimberly Blackwell; his brothers-in-law, David (Debra) Hurst, and Steven Newbern; and his lifelong friends, Phillip and Jolene Johnson, and Mike Dodgers.
