ABBEVILLE. . .Richard Lee “Dick” Klink, a resident of Abbeville, died Thursday morning, January 25, 2018, at his home.  He was 77.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 27, 2018, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Teddy Ward officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East.


The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or S.H.A.R.K., P.O. Box 126, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mr. Klink was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and was reared in Minneapolis, son of the late William Joseph Klink and Loretta Hartzie Klink. He was reared by his step-mother, Bernadine Klink. Mr. Klink enlisted in the U. S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam before retiring with rank of Sergeant First Class after twenty-one years service. While serving in the Army, he received the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the U. S. Vietnam Service Medal with four stars, the RVN Gallantry Cross and several Presidential and Valor Citations. After retirement from the military, he was employed by Ansell and Teledyne both in Dothan. He formerly lived in Dothan and Boynton Beach, Florida before moving to Abbeville in 2004. Mr. Klink was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Bradley-Keller American Legion Post in Abbeville. He loved his gardening and flowers and had a green thumb. Mr. Klink loved western movies, especially John Wayne. He enjoyed feeding the deer and saw a ten point buck come up  and eat the day before he died. Mr. Klink loved coffee at Panera Bread in Dothan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother and a sister, Judy Beauchamp.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Mattie Bedsole Scoggins Klink; a daughter, Sandra Dias (Phil), Dartmouth, MA; three sons, Timothy Klink (Katie), Hinesville, GA; Michael Klink, Montgomery;  and Jessie Klink Abbeville; a step-daughter, Terrie East (Gordon), Abbeville; and a step-son, Eddie Scoggins (Penny), Columbia; a sister, Chloe Pries, Amery, Wisconsin; three brothers, Joe Klink, Franklin, NH; Larry Klink, Ramsey, MN; and Jim Klink, New Richmond, WI; ten grandchildren, Asia Klink, Brittany Klink, Harlow Klink, Alex Klink, David Scoggins, Burton East, Josh Mauldin, Meghan Kelley, Logan Reyer and Matthew Dias; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Nicolle and Kindred Hospice and a special thank you to Judy Kilpatrick, for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Klink during his illness.
