ABBEVILLE. . .Richard Martin “Ricky” Culp, a resident of Abbeville, died Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his home. He was 58.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 26, 2024, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Don Adams and Reverend Jimmy Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oakey Grove Baptist Church, c/o Sylvia Olmstead, 14522 County Road 56, Newville, AL 36353.

            Ricky Culp was born in Ft. Gaines, Georgia but was raised in Abbeville where he lived all his lifetime. He attended Abbeville Christian Academy. Ricky was a member of Oakey Grove Baptist Church. He was retired, due to disability, from Buster’s IGA and had also been employed by Brown’s IGA and the Piggly Wiggly, all in Abbeville. In earlier years, Ricky worked for Arnold’s Furniture. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Neil Culp, his mother, Brenda Martin Culp, and his grandparents, Gordon Tollie Culp, Jr., Mavis Messer Culp, Otis Martin and Willie V. Martin.

            Surviving relatives include a brother, Robby Culp, Abbeville; a half-brother, John Waylon Culp; a special aunt, Carole Culp Abbott, Tallahassee, FL; several cousins from the Culp, Martin and Messer families including a special cousin who was like a sister, Sandy Roland, Abbeville.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Wayne Birchler, Kelly Kelley, Troy Wilson, Greg Hartzog, Keith Trammell, Jerry Brown and Jimmy Creamer. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be J. P. Champion.
