Richard Saliba was born in Dothan, Alabama on March 6, 1936 and died on December 4, 2016 at SAMC following a short illness. He graduated from Dothan High School in 1955 and shortly thereafter married Karen Hightower on June 6, 1955. He attended Auburn University where he was a member of the track team. He joined his Dad at Saliba Construction Co., Inc. in 1959 and remained in Dothan until his death.


He spent his life working with youth and helping others. He coached Dixie Youth baseball for years, coached city league football and was the scoutmaster for the special needs scouts at the Dothan Elks Lodge. He served on the board of the Alabama/Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Eagle Review Board for several years, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his service to scouting.


He was selected for the Alabama Construction Hall of Fame in 2010 and was instrumental in facilitating the merger of the Dothan/Montgomery Chapter of AGC with the Birmingham and Mobile Chapters to form one AGC state wide organization. In his later years, he spent most of his time working with the ALS support group, his Church and attending Auburn University athletic events.


The funeral will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday December 7, 2016 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, with Father Peter Wong officiating. Visitation starting at 11:00 am until 1:30 pm in the Parish Hall. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd of Sunset Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ALS Association Alabama Chapter (PO Box 2888/Huntsville, AL 35804), the Angel of Hope Fund (c/o Sun South Bank-PO Box 1910/Dothan, AL 36302) or the Episcopal Church of the Nativity (205 Holly Lane, Dothan, AL 36301).


Richard was preceded in death by his parents Jameel D. and Edna A. Saliba, Jamal Saliba and his wife Karen H. Saliba.


His survivors include two sons, Richard J. (Jane) Saliba and Andrew Jason (Christina) Saliba; his sisters, Merian A. Saliba and Mona (Bo) Parker; his brothers, Jim David (Peggy) Saliba and Tony (Sharon) Saliba; his grandchildren, Lauren (Steven) Lawrence and Michael Saliba; niece, Amelia (Ken) McNeese; several great nieces and nephews; and his companion, Marsha Cain.


Serving as pallbearers are Alan Dorn, Doug Kosan, Jake McCord, Chris Salamone, Billy Wells and Mike West. Honorary pallbearers are Brad Cain, Billy Gilbert, Lee Jernigan, Mike Palmer, John Watson and Felton Woodham.


Richard was loved by many and will be missed by all.
