Richard “Steve” Lee Stephens, 79, a resident of Cowarts passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016 at a local hospital.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1231 Fortner Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


Mr. Stephens was born on March 17, 1937 in Memphis, TN and lived there the early part of his life. He joined the U.S. Army and served for 9 years when he was medically retired. He has resided in the Dothan area since 1965. Steve was an avid golfer and a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy Stephens, his sister, Ann Snyder, his brother, Billy Stephens, and his son, Ricky Stephens.


Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Christa Stephens; daughter, Leah Langford; grandchildren, James Langford and Mary Beth Powell; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Rebecca Clark; 3 nieces; a special family friend, Nancy Clifton.
