Richard Wayne Mercer

Richard Wayne Mercer, a resident of Dothan, passed away on January 27, 2021. He was 74 years old.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. February 1, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Richard was born on March 8, 1946 in Columbus, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army. Richard owned and operated Mercer and Sons Plumbing and Electric for more than 50 years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting in his free time. Richard will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his wife Glenda Mercer, his mother Jeanette Kelly Gilmer and a brother Johnny Gilmer.

Survivors include his children, Ricky Mercer, Johnny Mercer, and Christy Spivey; his grandchildren, Zackary Mercer, Casey Mercer, Kaley Shelley, Kaleb Spivey, Karley Spivey, and Jamson Mercer; his great-grandchildren, Aleah Mercer and Braxton Chumney; his sister-in-law, Lillie (Dennis) Geer, sister-in-law Shirley (Rufus) Bradley, brother-in law-Wayne Jenkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
