Rita Leblanc Clegg of Geneva, AL, formerly of Greenwood and Laurel, MS, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 30, 2014. Mrs. Clegg, in the last months of her life, resided in the home of her daughter and son-in-law. She was 89. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Lake Park Hills in Laurel with the Reverends Dee Koza and David Jamison officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Artful Wonders Children’s Program at Geneva Presbyterian Church, 209 S. Commerce St., Geneva, AL 36340.
Mrs. Clegg was born in Baton Rouge, LA, on February 18, 1925, to the late Adolph J. Leblanc and Helen Phillips Rogillio. She graduated from nursing school at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. She was a longstanding member of The LeBonte Club in Greenwood and was a board member for the Leflore County Civic Center. She also volunteered and served with other organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, William Eugene Clegg, Sr.
She is survived by two daughters, Gayle Clegg Sanders (Richard) of Geneva and Carolyn Clegg Brooks (Larry) of Southaven, MS; son, William E. Clegg, Jr. (Teresa) of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren, John Randall Brooks, William E. Brooks, both of Southaven, William E. Clegg, III of Chattanooga, Caroline Parker Sanders of Atlanta, GA and Anna Claire Clegg Peek (Grayson) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two great grandchildren, Kathryn Grace and John Maddox Brooks, both of Southaven; and brother, Gregory W. Leblanc (Brenda) of Houston, TX.
The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to Latisa McNeal for her unconditional love and caring given to their mother, to the staff of Gentiva Hospice with a special thank you to Jim Parker, RN, Jessica Gilmore and Anna Hart, and to the staff and residents at Greenwood Place.
