Ritchie Lea Winkler, 71, of Dothan, Alabama passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 after a short illness.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 2 pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Nordstrom officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, 1-2 pm, on Wednesday.
Ritchie was born on April 28, 1950 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1973 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He began a career with Alabama Power Company and in 1975 transferred to Southern Nuclear Company in Dothan, where he worked for more than 30 years. Ritchie was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. He loved to follow football, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, women’s sports, etc… He watched on TV, computer, and listened to the events on the radio. Ritchie was a lifelong Christian. He was witty and funny and was a loyal friend. He loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit many exciting places around the country and world.
Ritchie was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lewis Winkler and Anne Lea Winkler of Jacksonville, Arkansas and his son, Mark Clinton Winkler, of Dothan, Alabama.
Ritchie’s greatest love was his family. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Margie Winkler, of Dothan; his daughter, Leslie Winkler Edwards (John), of Birmingham; his son, Daniel Winkler, of Bonifay; and his favorite grandchild, Mackenzie Long, of Birmingham; and his brother, Bob Winkler, of Jacksonville, Arkansas. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends, including very special friends, Mark and Pat Dean.
Thanks to all of the nurses and physicians who cared for Ritchie through his illness and to all of the people who offered prayers on his behalf.
