Robert (Bob) Gordon Vick, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 16, 2016.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at Greystone United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephanie Cox and Rev. John Sanders officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Monday at the church prior to service time.
Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Greystone Methodist Church “Building Fund”, 4401 Fortner St, Dothan, AL 36305.
Bob was born in Sweetwater, Alabama June 17, 1924. He graduated from Auburn University in Agricultural Education. Bob married Dorothy Sides, and together they started teaching school in Washington County. In 1951, they moved to Dothan, where Bob eventually retired after 35 years of employment at Hedstrom as their Traffic and Distribution Manager.
Bob attended Lafayette Street United Methodist Church for 56 years, then attended Greystone United Methodist Church. At Lafayette, Bob was Chairman of the Board, Superintendent of Sunday Schools, Sunday School Teacher, Lay Leader, Delegate to Annual Conferences, Conference Lay Speaker, and a Stephen Minister.
Bob was a 33rd Degree Mason and Past Master of the Houston Masonic Lodge, and now a member of the Dothan Masonic Lodge. He belonged to Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies, member of the Shrine, and secretary of the Masonic Temple Association for many years. Bob was past president of the Golden Kiwanis Club and a member of the Civitan Club. He served on the boards for Boy Scouts, Food Bank, and Wiregrass RSVP. President Ronald Reagan sent Bob a certificate for providing over 1000 volunteer service hours.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, James W. Vick; his mother, Ollie S. Vick; a brother J.W. Vick and loving wife, Dorothy S. Vick.
Bob was so proud of his surviving family which included a sister, Louise Colwell, a sister-in-law, Jeanette Vick; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bill Ellis; grandchildren and spouses, Krysta and Charlie Jordan and Brad and Bekah Ellis; great-grandchildren, Ella, Lucy, and Molly Jordan, and Rafe, Lincoln, and Mellie Ellis.
