Robert C. Hoffer


 


Robert C. Hoffer, (SSGT, US ARMY, Ret) passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 at his residence. He was 85.


 


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with Army Chaplain Captain Paul Cartmill officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 8 on Wednesday.


 


Mr. Hoffer was born on April 2, 1927 in Perrington, Michigan to Bert and Iola Hoffer and lived the early years of his life there. He later joined the U. S. Army where he served in World War II, Korea, and two tours in Vietnam. In 1972, he retired as Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service.  Mr. Hoffer was later employed with Civil Service until his retirement in 1992.


 


He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Harold and Louie and two sisters, Kathleen and Elizabeth.


 


He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hoffer of Clayhatchee, AL three sons, Edmond Hoffer (Barbara) of Warner Robins, GA, Donald Hoffer of Dothan, Brian Hoffer of Clayhatchee, AL; two daughters, Deborah Walker (Bill) of Scottsboro, AL, Sharon Hoffer of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Tonya Turner, John Bond, Jr., Therése Walker; six great-grandsons; a sister, Helen Walker of Perrington, MI; several nieces and nephews.
