Robert Clayton Monk, (US Army, Ret), 72, of Ozark, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Holmes, Rev. Al Sonanstein and Dr. Harvey Luke officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00-9:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to service time.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the D.A.V., Chapter 94, P.O. Box 57, Ozark, AL or Campground Baptist Church, 3898 Andrews Ave., Ozark, AL 36360.
Mr. Monk was born September 13, 1944 in Jackson, Alabama. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He retired from the U.S. Army as a CW4 instructor pilot with over 22 years of service. After retirement, he owned and operated H.M.I. Computer Service in Ozark. Mr. Monk loved riding his Harley and was an avid amateur radio operator. His call signs were KZ5ZK and WA4GIU. He also served as interim EMA director in Ozark and was of the Baptist faith.
He was predeceased by his father, Francis E. Monk.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Charlotte Dianne Monk of Ozark; a son, Brian C. Monk and wife, Claudia of Orlando, FL; two grandsons, Christopher and Michael Monk; his mother, Elsie Rae Monk of Fulton, AL; brothers and sisters, Jimmy, John, Sarah and Laura; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kreutzmann for his loyal friendship and medical care for the past 45 years.
