Robert “Bob” Daniel King

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 3:00 pm in Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Anderson. Entombment will be held in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. The family would like to express their gratitude to Respite Care Ministry First United Methodist of Dothan directed by Katie Holland, Vitas Hospice, First Light Homecare, as well as Dr. Bruce Josten of Panama City, FL for their care.

Robert Daniel King, known affectionately as Bob, passed away on August 1, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on March 21, 1944, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Bob was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew him. He departed this life in Dothan, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of love, education, and service.

Bob's journey began in Raleigh, where he spent his formative years, graduating from Garner High School in 1962. He furthered his education at North Carolina State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in 1966 and a Master's in Mathematics in 1968. With a passion for knowledge and a heart for service, Bob devoted the bulk of his career defending his country in a civilian capacity.

After moving to Panama City, Florida, in 1968, Bob embarked on a distinguished career as a Civil Service employee for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, where he eventually retired as the Department Business Manager for the Systems Acquisitions Department in 2005. His commitment to education persisted as he shaped young minds as a Math teacher at Gulf Coast Community College early in his career.

Bob's life was defined by more than his professional achievements. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 32 years, Deborah "Debbie" King, and a loving father to his children, Tiffany Sloan (Peter), Bridget Lipawen (Mark), Justin Kitchens (Holly), and Chris Kitchens (Ashley). His joy multiplied as he became a grandfather to Drew Lowdermilk (Amanda), Lyndsay Richardson (Noah), Caroline Reyes, Hannah Reyes, DJ Kitchens (Paige), Christopher Kitchens (Alexis), Bailey Kitchens, Riley Kitchens, Addison Kitchens, and Maddie Kitchens. The family circle expanded with the arrival of his cherished great-grandson, Oliver Kitchens.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert G and Nina Wombles King, and his sister, Barbara Bain. Despite these losses, his life was a testament to strength and resilience, qualities that he instilled in his family.

A man of faith, Bob was an active member of Parker United Methodist Church in Panama City, Florida, before moving to Dothan, Alabama, in 2019, after Hurricane Michael. In Dothan, he joined the congregation of Harvest Church in September 2019, continuing his spiritual journey and service.

Bob's generosity extended beyond the walls of the church. He was a proud member of the Civil Club in Panama City and volunteered from 2006-2018 at Bay Medical Center (Ascension Sacred Heart) auxiliary. His experience at the Walk to Emmaus retreat further deepened his faith and commitment to living a Godly life.

Those who knew Bob were touched by his humility, sweetness, and kindness. He cared deeply for the people he worked with and always approached life with an optimistic outlook and a sense of humor that brought smiles to many faces.

Bob King's memory will be cherished and kept alive by the countless lives he touched. His spirit, a blend of compassion, wisdom, and joy, will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Bob's life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, one filled with love, service, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of others. He will be profoundly missed, but the impact of his life's work and the warmth of his character will resonate for generations to come.
