Robert David Marsh


Robert David Marsh, age 58, died after a long battle with cancer in his home in Ozark, AL on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.  Robert was born and raised in Ozark to longtime residents Mary Ezell-Marsh and Robert Russell Marsh. 


Robert Marsh was a dedicated public servant his entire life.  He began with his enlistment in the United States Army, then went on to serve as a police officer in Ariton and progressed to the Ozark Police Department where he achieved the rank of Captain.  After 18 years as a police officer, he took the position of Manager with the Ozark Housing Authority  helping those in need find affordable housing within their community.  Mr. Marsh worked to the end of his life, still in service, as the Dale County Emergency Management Agency Director.  He was always proud to serve and dedicated to the health and safety of all his community and neighbors.


Mr. Marsh is survived by his wife Shari Russell-Marsh, his children Jessica, Richard, and RJ Marsh as well as his step-children Aaron and Brittany Vedder, his grandchildren Tristan, Isabella, Riley, and Isaac Marsh, his mother Mary E. Marsh , sister Shari Harris, and his niece Mikayla Harris Jones.  He is also survived by a large, loving family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.  His father, Robert Russell Marsh, preceded him in death.


A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.


His pallbearers will be his comrades from the 304th battalion of the 3rd Brigade of the Alabama Volunteers, formerly titled The Alabama State Defense Force.  Mr. Marsh helped found the local branch along with longtime friend and fellow police officer, Eddy Henderson, who will speak at the funeral service.  Mr. Brett Howard of the Alabama Emergency Management Agency will also speak.


Mr. Robert D. Marsh would thank the entire community of Ozark and Dale County for allowing him to serve faithfully all these many years.  His family will thank you for honoring his memory.
