DOTHAN. . .Robert E. (Bobby) Burkett, a resident of Dothan, died late Wednesday morning, September 10, 2014. He was 78.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 13, 2014, in the Eastside Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend James Bradley and Reverend Thomas Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastside Free Will Baptist Church “A.N.N.A.’s Place (Senior Group Fund), 1679 East Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Bobby Burkett was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Archie Lee Burkett and Harriett Irelle Bond Burkett. He lived in the Headland area most of his lifetime before moving to Dothan in 2012. Bobby was a member of the Eastside Free Will Baptist Church and was employed by Emfinger Steel Company in Dothan. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Christine Webb, Ruby Kelley, and Gayle Wright, and a brother, Carl Burkett.


            Bobby was a faithful servant of the Lord and served his church as an usher and was a faithful supporter. He always said “You begged me in, and you will have to tote me out”. Bobby was the best greeter at A.N.N.A.’s Place and a strong supporter. Always arriving very early at church to make sure he was on time, he always loved to go on church visitation and visit the nursing homes. Bobby never met a stranger and always greeted everyone he came in contact with. He loved to go out and eat every Sunday after church and wear nice clothes and tell people how God changed his life from what he used to be . He was a true man of God and will be missed so very much.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Peggy Burkett Bradford, Lamar County, Al; a son, Bobby Earl Burkett (Carla), Dothan; a sister, Sara Knight, two brothers, Grover Burkett (Patsy), Dothan; and Donnie Burkett (Glenda), Headland; four grandchildren, Chris Rochon, Brandon Rochon, Bryan Tate, and Justin Tate; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
