Mr. Robert Gale Thomas, age 85, of Dothan, AL and formerly of Miami, FL, died Wednesday, June 12th, 2013 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 15, 2013 in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm at the funeral home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dothan or Miami Elks Club, 10301 SW 72nd Street, Miami, FL 33173.
Bob, as he was known, was born October 26th, 1927 in New York, NY. He served in the United Sates Navy during World War II, in the European Theatre through 1945. He then became a postal worker for the United States Post Office until his retirement. Bob moved with his family to Miami, Fl in 1959 and lived there up until 2009, when he moved to Dothan, AL to be near his daughter, Sheri. He was a lifelong member of the Elks club and loved his time as part of the Miami yard crew. Bob was also an avid Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, Miami Hurricanes, and New York Yankees fan. His days often revolved around what team was playing that day. His love for these teams was a special bond he shared with his son, Bobby.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Mary Lavinia, and his Father, David Shurl “Tommie” Thomas. Survivors include his daughters Lynn Good of Crawfordville, Fl and Sheri Thomson (Ken Moore) of Dothan, Al. He is also survived by one son, Robert D. Thomas (Donna) of Inverness, Fl., and his sister, Mary Jane Doll of Panama City, FL. Bob also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Chris Thomas (Odalys), Adam Thomas (Carlie), Tony Good (Megan), Candice Good, Garrett Thomson, and Jordan Thomson. He was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren that he often spoke of with much pride, Hayden, Taylor, Alysa, Anthony, Adriana, Tristan and soon-to-be-born, Ava. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
