ROBERT H. LANE
WEBB. . .Robert H. Lane, a resident of Webb, died late Wednesday afternoon, May 09, 2018, at his home after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 14, 2018, in the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. officiating and eulogies to be given by Jack Ready and Tim McArdle. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, c/o Shirley Gouge, 201 Kristina Road, Webb, AL 36376 or to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.
Mr. Lane was born in Beaumont, Texas and reared in Sheridan, Arkansas, son of the late Robert Hampton Lane and Alma Beard Lane. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War era and also in the Army National Guard. He was transferred to Ft. Rucker where he met and married Corine Kirkland on October 4, 1952. They resided in Webb most of their married life. Mr. Lane was a member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Mr. Lane retired from Hayes Aircraft at Napier Field as an Aircraft Mechanic. In earlier years, he was employed by Adams Supply Co. in Dothan. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Corine Kirkland Lane, three sisters, Myrtle Armstrong, Corrine Lane and Viola Forrester and four brothers, Gus Lane, John Lane, Wilsey Lane and George Wayne Phillips.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Sherrie McArdle (Tim), Pekin, Illinois; Sandra Roberts (Bruce), Dothan; and Shelia Brooks (Terry), Phenix City; two sisters, Polly Lincoln (Arnold), and Bonnie Wells (Bobby), all of Arkansas; six grandchildren, Jason McArdle (Julie), Amanda Waltemyer (Chad), Molly Shock (Travis), Heather Brooks, Drew Brooks and Danny Brooks; eleven great-grandchildren; and his special canine friend, “PeeWee”.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Covenant Care Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Lane during his illness.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jason McArdle, Chad Waltemyer, Travis Shock, Roscoe Rabon, Billy Kirkland, Danny Brooks and Wayne Odom.
