ABBEVILLE. . . Robert Harrison Lisenby, Sr., a resident of Abbeville, died early Saturday morning, February 4, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 83.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 5, 2012, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Pemberton and Reverend Gary Fleming officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Cemetery in the Capps community. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL. 36310.


            Mr. Lisenby was born and reared in the Capps community of Henry County, son of the late William Robert Lisenby and Merline Harrison Lisenby. He was a 1947 graduate of Abbeville High School and received a B. S. Degree in Agriculture Education from Auburn University. Mr. Lisenby later received a Masters Degree in School Administration from Troy University. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War and also in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit.


            Mr. Lisenby was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon and was a member and teacher of the Men’s III Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association and was a former member of the Abbeville Kiwanis Club. Mr. Lisenby retired as an Education Specialist from U.S. Civil Service at Fort Rucker. In earlier years, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Education for Henry County and also was also employed as a Vocational Agriculture teacher for the Newville School. He was engaged in farming most of his adult lifetime. Mr. Lisenby was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Lt. Col. Dennis Bennett and a brother-in-law, Allen Edson.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Sarah Hicks Lisenby, Abbeville; a daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Bennett, Panama City, FL; two sons, Dr. Robert H. Lisenby, Jr. and wife, Melba, Abbeville; Bill Lisenby and fiance’, Shanna Snell, Dothan; a sister, Mary Lisenby Edson, Eufaula; two sisters-in-law, Grace Parker, Montgomery and  Carol Baggett, Hawkinsville, GA;  eight grandchildren, Thomas M. (Kirk) Kirkland, Robert H. (Robby) Lisenby, III and wife, Erin, William Richard Lisenby, Jon Lisenby, Clarissa Radd and husband, Wesley, Clint Croft, K’Lea Lisenby and Brianna Lisenby; an aunt, Pauline Andrews, Newport News, VA.  


            Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons and Ronnie Lisenby and Walt Edson.
