ROBERT JOHN ESCHENBURG
EUFAULA. . .Robert John Eschenburg, a resident of northern Henry County, between Abbeville and Eufaula, died Saturday morning, July 26, 2014, in the Birmingham VA Medical Center. He was 67.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at a later date in the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Marine Corps League, c/0 Darrell Langford, 202 Roberts Street, Dothan, AL 36301, or to the American Legion, c/o Freddie Brannon, 718 Strickland Road, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. Eschenburg was born in Richmond, Michigan and moved to Henry County, Alabama in 2007. He was a graduate of Eustis High School in Eustis, Florida. Mr. Eschenburg served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church near Abbeville. Mr. Eschenburg was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Carl Eschenburg and Pearl Alice Miller Eschenburg, a sister, and three brothers.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Carolyn Rhodes Eschenburg, a daughter, Teresa Thomas, and a son, Robert John Eschenburg, II (Sara), all of Eufaula; three sisters, Bea Babel, Eustis, FL; Gerri McCauslin, Leesburg, FL; and Pauline Jones, Greensboro, NC; a brother, Hank Eschenberg, Astatula, FL; five grandchildren, Johnny, Tjaden, Soren, Lindie, and Tempi Eschenburg; mother-in-law, Sally Frances Rhodes, Eufaula; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Decker, Gainesville, FL and Susan Thornton (Gary), Commerce, TX.
