ABBEVILLE…Robert Joseph “Jody” Howerton, a resident of Abbeville, died Wednesday night, October 12, 2016, in a Dothan hospital. He was 84.
Graveside services, with full military rites, will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 15, 2016, in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Abbeville with Pastor Brandon Turner officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Howerton, son of the late James Murphy Howerton and Addie Pastoria Palmer Howerton, was born and reared in the Wesley Community of Henry County, Alabama, where he lived most of his adult lifetime. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era and later served ten years in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Howerton served in the Alabama Army National Guard in Abbeville and retired as a Sergeant First Class. He was also employed as a carpenter in commercial construction. Mr. Howerton was a member of the V.F. W. in Eufaula and a member of the Judson Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Turner Howerton, two sisters, Janie Mae Joiner, and Alice Griffith, and two brothers, James Earl Howerton and Jack Howerton.
Surviving relatives include three sisters, Mildred Helton and Betty Watson, both of Abbeville; Annette Harpe, Alaska; a brother, William Murphy Howerton, Abbeville; several nieces and nephews.
