Robert Lee Middleton, Sr. left his home in Cowarts, Alabama on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 to go to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was 95.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Raymond Holt, Scottie Hatcher, and Mike Wehner officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, January 31, 2014. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, AL 36301.
Dr. Middleton was born April 27, 1918, in Noma, Florida, the son of the late Walter Mack Middleton and Addie Smith Middleton. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Cottonwood. He was a graduate of Campbellton High School. Dr. Middleton attended seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana; Albany, Georgia; and Dothan, Alabama. He earned his Doctor of Ministry in 1990 and his Doctor of Sacred Theology in 1993. He was a pastor for over 65 years and served in churches in northwest Florida and southeast Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lucy Mae Wheelus Middleton. He and his wife were founders and owners of Pest-ex Exterminating Co.
Dr. Middleton is survived by a son, Robert Lee Middleton, Jr. (Reba), of Dothan; daughters, Glenda Robinson, Enterprise, Dorothy Goodson (Paul), Panama City, Florida, Ann Deal (Billy), Headland, Mary Middleton, Cowarts, Carol Sims (Jimmy), Ashford, and Frances Middleton, Cowarts.
Grandchildren, are Lisa Robinson, Jamie Robinson, Tommy Goodson (Cheryl), Christi Park (Dustin), Bruce Goodson (Yolanda), Michael Deal, Elizabeth Deal, Eric Middleton (Kim), Tara Gibson (Justin), and Heather Dills (Adam).
Great-grandchildren are Margaret Blackwell, Morgan Goodson, Madison Goodson, Ethan Park, Brenna Park, and Preston Brooks.
Dr. Middleton is survived by his brother-in-law, Frank Wheelus and his wife, Marion of Gainesville, Florida.
The family is thankful to his caregiver Mondella Eady. They are also thankful to the staff at Covenant Hospice, especially Lynn, Cynthia, Carla, and Tracy.
Pallbearers will be Michael Deal, Eric Middleton, Bruce Goodson, Tommy Goodson, Justin Gibson, and Adam Dills.
