Robert Lee “Rod” Allums
Rod Allums passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 at his residence. His funeral will be held Wednesday morning, August 7, 2013 at 10:00 A. M. EDT in the Chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Hovey and Rev. Sam White will be officiating and burial will follow in the Pine Lawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 PM EDT. Active pallbearers will be Ray Peterson, Bud Neese, Lamar Nix, Marzell Moses, Randy Nowell, Rick Trevathan, Wayne Skeen and Wellborn "Red" Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be John Sherman, David Sherman, Dr. Bobby Martin, Oree Baxley and all past and present employees of the CIRR.
Mr. Allums was born Feb. 22, 1951 in Ozark Alabama to the late Frank Allums and Ira Barnes Allums. He retired as the General Manager of the Chattahoochee Industrial Railroad in Cedar Springs, Ga. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his godfather: Earnest L. "Booster" Golden; 5 brothers: Franklin Allums, Max Allums, Jimmy Allums, Holman Barnes and Micky Golden and by 3 sisters: Dean Watson, Doris Glenn and Claudia Spurlock.
His survivors include his wife of 39 years Mary Odom Allums, a daughter, Kimberly A. Scarborough and husband Brent and a son, Chris Allums all of Blakely, Ga. There 2 grandchildren: Abby Cleveland and Paxton Scarborough also of Blakely. He has a godmother, Martha Ann Golden of Headland, Al. He has 5 brothers: Bill Allums(Susie) of Lakeland, Fl., David Allums (Donie) of Newville, Al., Terry Allums (Kristie) of Abbeville, Al., Larry Allums (Phyllis) of Enterprise, Al. and Steve Allums of Texarkana, AR. There are also 4 sisters: Carolyn (Clyde) Riley of Newville, Al., Ann Williams of Troy, Al., Lavada McManious of Conyers, Ga. and Peggy Avery of California.
