Robert Louis Jones was born on April 5, 1939 to Clyde Jones & Ethel Miles Jones-Granduke in Buckingham, County Virginia. He was educated in Buckingham County schools. After graduating high school, he served a term in the US Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, Robert relocated to New Jersey where he met Betty Virginia Dale at Sonny’s Restaurant in Montclair, NJ and they were united in marriage in 1966. Robert resided in Montclair until he retired to Dothan, Al in 2002.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Horace Freeman officiating and Robert Byrd directing.
Robert worked for Jim Regan Trucking, Allied Van Lines and he retired from Block & Rose Trucking in 2002. Robert was known for his famous Rice Pudding and bar-b-que at his mother’s house- 215 Walnut Street. One of Robert’s most known sayings was “Go Home”, you knew he cared about you if he told you to “Go Home”.
Robert was predeceased by his wife, Betty Virginia Dale Jones, mother Ethel Miles Jones-Granduke, his father Clyde Jones, sister Nannie Jane Ferguson (Clifton), daughter Erica Jones-Cook and granddaughter Lisa Jones.
Cherishing his memories are his children – Diedre Jones-Newsome (Terry) of Dothan Al, Jewel Jones-Evans (Donald) of Snellville GA, David Jones (Janet) of Bridgeton, NJ, Deanna Jones (Tavares) of Dothan, AL and Makeba Brown of LaGrange, NC; a son-in-law, Vincent Brown of Blakely, GA.
Robert adored his 16 grandchildren who affectionately called him “Grandpop”: Anthony, Donae, Dara, Chris, Kashiya, David, Matthew, Dale, Patrick (Shaquinda), Bradford, Jade, Daquan, Marcus, Maris, Dylan and Semaj; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 Sisters, Marion Hope (John) of East Orange, NJ and Janice Jones, Baltimore, MD; 8 Sisters – in – law: Alice M. King and Shirley Taylor of Bridgton, NJ, Lilian Enos (Ulyses) and Irene Matthews (Julian) of Dothan Alabama, Agnes Armstrong (Al, deceased) of Orange, NJ, Elaine Petry (Emmeris) of Freeport, LI, Florene Dale (brother-in-law Lester Dale, deceased) of Salisbury, MD and Brothers-in-law Lawrence Dale (Gloria) of Fruitland, MD, James Dale (Gwen) of Monroe, NC.
