ROBERT LYNWOOD SMITH, SR.
HEADLAND….Robert Lynwood Smith, Sr., a resident of the Blackwood Community, near Headland, died Monday morning, March 24, 2014 at his home. He was 88.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Sam White, Reverend James A. Rich, and Hospice Chaplain Phillip Durr officiating. Graveside services with military honors, will follow in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Concord Baptist Church, c/o Janara Parrish, 1350 County Road 14, Newville, AL 36353.
Mr. Smith was a native of Louisville, Alabama and moved to the Blackwood Community near Headland in 1953. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie Gaston Smith and Evielee Scroggins Smith, his step-mother, Dot Hatfield, a grandson, Clint Hutto and two sisters, Bonnie Jean Scott and Evie Lee Peel Trawick.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Welch Smith, Headland; a daughter, Debbie Hutto (Don), Abbeville; three sons, Bobby Smith, Paul Smith (Dale) and Phillip Smith, all of Headland; four grandchildren, Justen Hutto, Cade Hutto (Allison), Ty Smith, and Austin Smith; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Welch Family, Kendrick and Mavis Welch, Shirley Welch and Wisteria Key.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Barry Spivey, Jeff Spivey, Michael Welch, Keith Welch, Stevie Key, and Greg Peel. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Angela Armstrong and the staff of Alacare Hospice for their loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Smith and his family.
