DOTHAN. . .Robert Mace Holman, Jr. died on Thursday, June 22, 2017. He was 84 years old.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Sunday, June 25, 2017, in the Memory Hill Cemetery, 2414 Hartford Highway in Dothan, with Reverend Linda Suzanne Borgen of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Episcopal Church Parish Hall immediately following the service. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holman was born on July 27, 1932 in Dothan, where he lived most of his life. He was married to the late Julia (“Julie”) Holman for 31 years. Mr. Holman graduated from Seminole County High School. Mr. Holman served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War era, and then graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, where he was President of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Mr. Holman worked as an investment banker for his entire career, having last managed the local office of Thornton, Farrish & Gauntt, Inc. until his retirement. His office served as fiscal agent for the City of Dothan for many years. He enjoyed Auburn football, fishing, spending time outdoors, and was considered by many as a great storyteller. Mr. Holman served as an active volunteer at Landmark Park, which awarded him that organization’s Tommy Ricketts Memorial Volunteer Service Award in 2000. His volunteer efforts at the Park also led him to receive a President’s Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
Mr. Holman was preceded in death by his parents Robert (“Bob”) Mace Holman Sr. and Katherine MacKinnon Holman, and by his wife Julia (“Julie”) White Holman.
Survivors include five children, Kendall (Rosalie) Holman, William (Tammi) Holman, Leland Holman, Robert (Tara) Holman, and Julia (Zach) Messitte; five grandchildren, Anna Holman, Caroline Holman, George Holman, Samuel Messitte and Julius Messitte. He is also survived by brothers, Merritt (Jenny) Holman and William (“Bill”) Holman; a sister, Sarah (Don) Bennett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
