Roger Lee Russaw, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at his residence. He was 61.


Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1-2 pm.


Mr. Russaw was born to Eva Pearl Rabb and Farrell Lee Thomas on May 14, 1957 in Dothan, AL. He was a 1975 graduate of Dothan High School. After high school, Mr. Russaw joined the U.S. Army and served for 10 years. He returned to Dothan and worked with Dothan City Schools as head custodian at Montana Street Elementary School until he retired after 22 years of employment. Mr. Russaw was a people person and for many years, the children at Montana Street Elementary School were thrilled to be greeted with a big smile from Mr. Roger every day. Mr. Russaw loved to cook and grill out, especially ribs and chicken. He loved to dance, was a sharp dresser and loved to wear hats. Mr. Russaw was a huge Alabama football fan and loved to watch westerns, especially Gun Smoke.


He was proceeded in death by his brother Aaron Junior Russaw; and sister, Janie Asbie.


Mr. Russaw leaves to cherish his memories to his loving mother, Eva Pearl Rabb; devoted, loving and caring wife of 14 years, Lizetta Russaw, who never left his side; three sons, Roger Russaw, Jr. of Seattle WA, Randy Smith of Dothan, AL and Sherman Peterson of Seabring, FL; two step-sons, Michael Smith of Abbeville, AL and Kentrey Glasgow of Dothan, AL; four daughters, Aishia Zakia (Timothy) Griffin of Greensboro, NC, Charidy Victoria Russaw, Rodreshia Lechelle Russaw, of Dothan, Alabama and Chasity Renee Peterson of Dothan, AL; three brothers, Freddie B. (Hartie) Russaw of Webb, AL, Charles Edward White of Atlanta, GA and Ray Charles White of Fort Mitchell, AL; three sisters, Norline (Lester) Jackson of Dothan, AL, Nancy Marie (Edward) Barnett of Montgomery, AL and Barbara (John) Helms of Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Jayvyyn Robinson Lee, Judah Howard Abralem, Kenya Sharpton Glasglow, Trinity Kiana Dorame, Ephraim David Dorame, Isaac Benjamin Dorame, Kyree Perciual, Re’Anda Smith, Katlin Seago Rochester Johnson 3rd, Tae’Leona Cruz, SeQuan Peterson, Cassius Brady, Evander Johnson and Rochester Johnson, III; great-grandchildren, Christie Crews and Niomie Williams; aunts, Earline (James) Lee of Dothan, AL, Diann Blackmon of Dothan, AL, Agatha Acree of Hartford, AL and Bernice Russaw Johnson of Georgetown, GA; a great aunt, Callie Springfield of Dothan, AL; uncles, Willie Edward Russaw of Dothan, AL, Ahmed Abdullah, John Wesley Edwards of Dothan, AL, Jerry Edwards of Dorchester, MA, Jerome Acree and Tommy Acree of Dothan, AL; sisters-in-law, Linda (Leroy) Hillard of Chicago, Carolyn (Levi) Colson of Gainsesville, FL and Irma Jean (Ronnie) Joe of Rockford, IL; brother-in-law, Albert (Janice) Ardis of Dothan, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
