Roger William Sollie, a resident of Dothan, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, March 14, 2016, following a brief illness. He was 89.


 


Celebration of life services for Mr. Sollie will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Ward Wilson Chapel with Reverend Tim Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to: Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1231 Fortner Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


 


Mr. Sollie was born September 17, 1926, in Whynot, Mississippi to the late Rev. Horace Victor Sollie and Ida Alice Evans Sollie. He was a graduate of Sweet Water High School in Alabama and studied Civil Engineering at the University of South Alabama. He volunteered for Navy Service in September 1944, and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After his discharge, Mr. Sollie worked for the Alabama State Highway Department for six years, then made a move with the Corps of Engineers with his wife, Catherine, and their five children to Dothan where the family became active members of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Mr. Sollie retired from the Corps in 1981.


 


While at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Mr. Sollie was ordained as a deacon. He also taught a Men’s Sunday School Class for over twenty five years.


 


For several years Mr. Sollie coached Dixie Youth Baseball at Doug Tew Center where he had a positive influence on the lives of many youth in the City of Dothan.


 


Mr. Sollie was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years, Catherine Luker Sollie, and a daughter, Becky Sollie Clark. Survivors include three sons, Don (Kathy), Mike (Beth), and Greg, one daughter, Alice (Dan) Morris; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Evelyn Brantley, Daphne, Alabama.


 


The family is grateful for the care provided by the staffs of Flowers Hospital and Wesley Manor.
