Rollins Lynne Tindell, Sr.
Rollins Lynne Tindell, Sr. passed away on August 31, 2016.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery, 2390 Hartford Hwy., Dothan, Alabama 36305, at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 2nd, 2016 with Dr. Jim Sanders officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36301.
Rollins was born on July 27, 1922 in Hartford, AL to Vassie Kinsaul Tindell and William Thomas Tindell. He graduated from Geneva County High School, attended The University of Alabama, graduating from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1943. After serving in the US Navy he began a thirty-five year career in optometry opening Tindell Optometry in Dothan, Alabama in 1945 and retiring in 1980.
In 1950, he married Margaret Florence Peacock and had two children Rollins Lynne Tindell, Jr. and Elizabeth Rawls Tindell McCollum. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Lions Club of Dothan and Dothan Country Club. He enjoyed his summer home on Grand Lagoon in Panama City, Florida, fishing, golfing and attending The University of Alabama football games.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Thomas Tindell and Vassie Kinsaul Tindell and sister, Kathleen Tindell and his beloved wife of 53 years Margaret Florence Peacock Tindell.
He is survived by his children Rollins Lynne Tindell, Jr. (Cynthia) and Elizabeth Rawls Tindell McCollum (Gwaltney); grandchildren, Thomas Kells Tindell (Jennifer), Kathryn Elizabeth Tindell Pope (Jeffrey), Margaret Kathleen McCollum DeBardeleben (Whitney), and Elizabeth Nan McCollum Goodwyn (Caleb); great-grandchildren Jackson Christopher Pope, Caroline Elizabeth Pope, William Thomas Pope, John Gwaltney Goodwyn, Sarah Margaret DeBardeleben, and Whitney Rollins DeBardeleben.
The family extends a special thank you to the caregivers, Missy Holland, Elizabeth Johnson, Annie McWhorter, Hattie O’Neal, Greg Smith, Howard Stark, and Pam Womack.
Pallbearers are Collier Espy, Jr., Griggs Espy, Hayne Hollis, Jr., David Johnston, David Sconyers, and George Veale.
Honorary pallbearers are Whitney DeBardeleben, Caleb Goodwyn, Jeffrey Pope and Kells Tindell.
