The family will welcome friends and those whose lives were graced by Ron’s presence on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 10-11 am at the funeral home, to share stories, laughter, and the warmth of a community that Ron helped to foster.
Ronald Edward Staggs, known affectionately as Ron, was a beacon of strength and generosity, whose life journey began on May 11, 1958, in the verdant city of Augusta, Georgia. He departed from this world on December 30, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama, leaving a legacy of love and selflessness that will forever illuminate the lives of those he touched.
Ron's formative years were spent in the warm embrace of Wicksburg, Alabama, where he moved with his family in 1967. A proud graduate of Wicksburg High School in 1976, Ron carried the spirit of his hometown into every endeavor. He built a distinguished career at Alabama Power, where he served with dedication as a Comptroller until his medical retirement in 2004. His professional life was characterized by the same integrity and commitment he displayed in all aspects of his life.
Ron’s heart was as expansive as his smile, and his engagement with the community was a testament to his caring nature. As an active member of the Multiple Sclerosis Group of Dothan, he offered hope and support to many. Ron’s masonic brotherhood at Lodge 466 knew him as a man of principle and fraternity, embodying the values of the Masons in his daily life.
Family was the cornerstone of Ron's world. He is survived by his loving fiancée, Judy Bright; his sisters, Connie Staggs and Kelly (Kenneth) Williamson; and his cherished nephews, Jason Staggs, Kevin Whitaker, Justin Cantor, and Myles Whitaker, along with several great-nieces and nephews. Each family member was a precious thread in the rich tapestry of his life.
Ron's interests reflected his multifaceted personality. He was headstrong, yet his headstrong nature was always directed towards doing good, towards being a pillar on which others could lean. This caring and giving man would extend help to anyone in any way he could, embodying the essence of selflessness.
In remembering Ron, we recall the words of the great Winston Churchill, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." Ron truly made a life by giving of himself, and in doing so, he enriched the lives of all who knew him. His spirit was a testament to the power of love and the unyielding strength of the human spirit.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be a reflection of the joy and light he brought into this world. It will take place at 11 am on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Buddy Hood and Rev. Scott Cox officiating. Masonic Rites will be held following the services on Friday. Ron will be laid to rest at a later date in Pilgrim's Home Baptist Church Cemetery, Newton, AL where his memory will be cherished and kept alive by the many hearts he touched.
Let us carry forward the values that Ron embodied—generosity, selflessness, and love. In doing so, we honor his memory and continue his legacy. Let us be inspired by his example to support and uplift one another, to be giving of ourselves, and to cherish every moment we have with those we love. Ron's journey on this earth may have concluded, but his spirit marches on, guiding us toward the better angels of our nature.
