Date of Service: Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ricky Hall officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm.

Ronald Jay Spires, a resident of Hartford, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. He was 48.


Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ricky Hall officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm. Flowers will be accepted, or contributions can be made to Wicksburg Youth Athletic Association, PO Box 8455 Dothan, AL 36304.


Ron was born on April 5, 1971 in Avon Park, Florida and moved to Rochelle, Georgia at an early age. He received a baseball scholarship to the University of Georgia and would later join the US Army and the US Army Reserve for a total of 26 years of military service. He was a distinguished graduate of the NCO Academy, and throughout his career he served on many assignments including Iraq, Bosnia and Hawaii. His decorations include, Meritorious Service Medal with two oakleaf clusters; Army Commendation Medal with two oakleaf clusters; The Army Achievement Medal with two oakleaf clusters. He retired from The Army Reserves with the rank of Sergeant Major. He was Department of the Army civilian for over 15 years and worked with Air Traffic services command as an Air Traffic Control Specialist. He received Superior Civilian Service Award and numerous high-performance awards. He was very patriotic and loved his country. He served on the board of Wicksburg Youth Baseball League and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Ron was a unique and incredible man; he was very protective of his family and loved them all very much. Ron served as a youth baseball coach and everyone wanted to play for his team.


Ron was preceded in death by his father, James Jackson Spires, his brother, James Randall Spires and his sister, Belinda “Diane” Neisent


Survivors include his soulmate and loving wife, Sunny Spires; his children, Zach Spires, Jessi Spires, Tristan Bailey, Zaven Spires, and Aarolyn Jones; his mother, Jeanette (Herman) Sutton; and his sister, Brenda (Bill) Stone; Brother in law, Jon (Lady) Daw, Father & Mother in Law, Dennis & Cricket Lee. Several Nieces and Nephews.
