Ronald L. Akridge, 62, of New Philadelphia, Ohio passed away July 31, 2023 in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital following years of declining health.

Born in Enterprise, Alabama on June 27, 1961, he was the son of the late Clifford and Alma L. (Thompson) Akridge. After graduating from Enterprise High School in 1979, he continued his formal education at Auburn University where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree and met his future wife.

Ron captured his future wife’s heart when he built Marla a doghouse for her dog on their first date. That relationship grew and on May 12, 1989, Ron married the former Marla R. Caldwell. They enjoyed a lifetime of travel, reading and being outdoors.

Professionally, Ron was an agronomist for several organizations. He also had a love for pets, woodworking, music, and participating as a radio ham operator. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit.

Ron’s family includes his wife, Marla; his siblings, Randy (Mary Charles) Akridge of Brewton, Alabama and Cathy (Rick) Lewis of Eufaula, Alabama; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Akridge of Hampton, Virginia; nieces and nephews, Lori (Hallam) McStootz, Garrett (Jada) Akridge, Jason (Valerie) Akridge, and Nathan Akridge; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Akridge.

No public visitation or services are scheduled at this time.

Memorial contributions in Ron’s memory may be directed to either the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or County Line Baptist Church, 1000 AL-92, Enterprise, AL 36330.
