Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at Frith Hill Church with Pastor Billy Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Frith Hill Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 on the day of the service.

Ronnie Earl Hughes, a resident of Dothan, Alabama passed on Friday, June 24, 2022 at a local hospital. He was 76.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at Frith Hill Church with Pastor Billy Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Frith Hill Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 on the day of the service.


Ronnie was born on November 6, 1945 in Houston County to Clyde and Geraldine Woodham Hughes and lived his early life there. He was a 1964 graduate of Cottonwood High School. After high school, he moved to Columbus, GA where he was employed as an electrician at the Bibb Cotton Mill. Later, he was employed with the Sunshine Biscuit Company for over 30 years until his retirement. In 1999, he moved back to Dothan and drove a school bus for Houston County Schools. Ronnie loved music and played in several bands including the first band he played with, The Wonderers, in 1962 where they played at the EM Club at Fort Rucker and the local VFW club in Dothan. Later, he played with the band, Country Holidays, in Columbus, GA at the local VFW there. Music was more than a love for Ronnie; it was his passion. Each morning he would record in his at home recording studio before going to work and after work. He was a member of the Frith Hill Community Church.


Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Charles Morris; his brother, Robert Hughes; and his sister, Bernice Dickerson.


Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shirley Hughes; his children, Vince (Stacey) Hughes, Lisa (Jerry) Merritt, Ellen Tidwell; his daughter-in-law, Wendy Morris; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary (Leonard) Eldridge; and several nieces and nephews.
