ABBEVILLE…Rose Norman Gashaw, a lifelong resident of Abbeville, died early Monday morning, January 11, 2021, in a Dothan hospital. She was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 13, 2021, in the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. Serving as active pallbearers will be members of the Henry County Sheriff’s Department. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed.
Rose was born and reared in Abbeville, daughter of the late William Rufus Norman and Mary Frankie Rollins Norman. She was a wonderful, southern cook who was loved by many and known to most as “Granny”. Rose was best known for her fried chicken and tater logs. In 2012, Rose retired from the Henry County Sheriff’s Department after twenty years of service. While there, she served in several capacities including Dispatcher and Food Service Manager. Rose was a member of the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy Jean Blankenship, a brother, Douglas Webster Norman, a niece, Kristi Lynn Norman, and a nephew, Terry Scott Norman.
Surviving relatives include her son, Charlie Blankenship (Beverly), Webb; a brother, Edward Hamilton Norman (Carol); six grandchildren, Shanna Ford (Jeremy), Derek Caraway, Todd Caraway, Amanda Webb (Keith), Heather Rogero (Gregg) and Brandy Blankenship (Brandi); eleven great-grandchildren, Kathryn Moody (Mike), Timothy Moody (Allison), Hunter Wise (Courtney), Zachary Blankenship (Jessica), Zane Rogero, Mallory Webb, Jackson Wisecup, Alexander Blankenship, Joseph Weaver (JJ), Charlie Blankenship and Riley Wise; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Gracie Baids (Brian), Colby Woodis and Holly Tyler (J.D.); many other friends and family that loved her
