ROSIE MAE REEVES
HEADLAND, AL… Rosie Mae Reeves, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away Friday afternoon, September 22, 2023, at a Dothan hospital. She was 85.
Celebration of Life services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 28, 2023, at St. Peter A.M.E. Church with Reverend Joshua Mann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Rosie Mae Reeves was born September 4, 1938, in Newville, Alabama, to the late Fred & Martha Thornton. Rosie was a loving and devoted wife and mother of seven children. She was the first educator for all of her children. She had a passion for cooking, reading, sewing, and word search puzzles. She greatly enjoyed cats and drinking coffee. Rosie Mae was a longtime member of St. Peter A.M.E. Church (Headland, Alabama). She was a Women’s Missionary Society president on the local level. She was a member of the Stewardesses, Ladies’ Aide Society, Senior Choir, Hospitality Committee, Pastor’s Aide Board, as well as a Youth Sunday School teacher. She contributed to the community by working as an election official at the local polling place. She also served on the Headland Housing Authority.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Reeves; her son-in-law, Jack Austin; her sisters, Everlyn Kinard and Veverlyn Thorton; and her brother, Robert Earl Thornton.
Leaving to cherish her memories is her husband of 69 years, Harvey Reeves, her children, Rose Reeves of Headland, AL, Cynthia Austin of Headland, AL, Sandra Edwards (Sidney) of Ozark, AL, Paul Reeves of Headland, AL, Sheila Weeks (Harold) of Huntsville, AL, and Jennifer Faniel of Headland, AL; her brother, Jimmy Thornton; her sisters, Freddie Mae Reeves of Headland, AL, Ola Bell Hammock of Decatur, GA, Sarah Ann Copelin of Headland, AL, Martha Jewel Fleming of Headland, AL, and Louise Williams of Headland, AL; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Thornton of Headland, AL and Mary Reeves of Headland, AL; her brother-in-law, Allen Kinard of Headland, AL; her fourteen grandchildren; her twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of her nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
