BLUE SPRINGS….Roy Allen Key, a resident of Blue Springs, died Monday morning, December 7, 2015, at his home. He was 89.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 9, 2015, in the Peniel Baptist Church with a Eulogy to be given by Jerry Tew. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Wayne Davis, 1056 County Road 41, Skipperville, Alabama 36374.
Mr. Key was a lifelong resident of Barbour County, near Blue Springs, son of the late Dan Pearson Key and Ruby Lucille Monk Key. He served his country in the United States Army in Germany during World War II. Mr. Key was engaged in farming all of his adult lifetime. He was a member of the Peniel Baptist Church. Mr. Key was preceded in death by a sister, Jewell Williams, three brothers, James Key, Billy Key and Harold Key, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wiley and Fannie B. Scott.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-six years, Jean Scott Key, Blue Springs; three daughters, Linda Shirah, Blue Springs; Cheryl Heifner and Lisa Bruner, both of Headland; a son, Ricky Key, Dothan; a sister, Rhoda Granberry, Headland; seven grandchildren, Keith Shirah, Amy Gulledge (Chad), Lara Tyler (Ty), Matt Heifner, Brandon Wells, Andrea Cristiano, and Nathan Key; eight great-grandchildren, Logan Shirah, Kalei Shirah, Hunter Gulledge, Dylan Gulledge, Abigail Gulledge, Caleb Tyler, Brody Tyler, and Josie Tyler; two special aunts, Wisteria Key and Evelyn Key.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Logan Shirah, Chad Gulledge, Ty Tyler, Matt Heifner, Brandon Wells, Nathan Key, Caleb Tyler and Dylan Gulledge. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Gulledge, Brody Tyler, and the remaining great-grandchildren.
