Roy Ezelle Strickland


 


Roy Ezelle Strickland, Sr. fell asleep in death Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his home in Dothan. He was 86.


Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Timothy Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-2:45 p.m. Saturday prior to service time.


Mr. Strickland was born January 3, 1928 in Dothan and lived most of his life here. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was employed by Sanitary Dairy and Dairy Fresh for 30 years retiring in 1992. He enjoyed drawing characters and sketches, and wrestling.


He was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. and Ethel Strickland, and two brothers, Herbert Strickland and W.H. Strickland.


Survivors include his wife, Sara Strickland of Dothan; three sons, Roy Strickland, Jr. (Cathy) of Dothan, John Strickland (Cindy) of Byron, GA and David Strickland of Dothan; two grandchildren and one step-grandson, Heather Whitehead (Wesley), Jeremy Strickland (Zochitl) and Jim Eldredge (Jessi); four great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren, Brooke Whitehead, Tara Kate Whitehead, J.J. Strickland, Victoria Strickland, Dakota, William, and Lucas Eldredge; and one sister-in-law, Annice Strickland of Dothan.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to Covenant Hospice and especially Cynthia and Lynn.
