ROY KEITH SHELLEY
HEADLAND.…Roy Keith Shelley, a resident of Headland, passed away Tuesday morning, January 07, 2020 after a courageous battle of cancer, at his home. He was 70.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 09, 2020, at the Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, with Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow in the Gardens of Memory, near Headland. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday before the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Zion Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o David Teat 10033 County Road 47 Shorterville, Alabama 36373.
Mr. Shelley was born on November 02, 1949 in Houston County, to the late John “Jack” W. Shelley, Sr. and Ellie Sanders Shelley. He was a 1968 graduate of Headland High School. Roy was a member and Trustee of New Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Tumbleton. He served in the Army National Guard for thirty-six years where he was a member of the 131st AR (Abbeville) and the STARC of Montgomery. He was a fulltime National Guardsman at Ft. Rucker for over thirty-five years. Including his parents, Roy was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Emily W. Collins and his brother-in-law, Charles D. “Doug” Collins.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Gayle Watson Shelley; his daughter, Carla G. Shelley; his brother John W. Shelley, Jr., of the Tumbleton Community; a brother-in-law, Dave Watson (Nancy), of Dothan; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank Encompass Health for their loving care of Roy and also thank the HNB 1st family for all they did through this time.
