ABBEVILLE. . . Ruby Hancock Mims, a resident of Abbeville, died early Monday morning, January 29, 2018, in the Dogwood Manor Assisted Living. She was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, January 31, 2018, in the Union Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Ray S. Reiley and Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Will Maddox, 2651 County Road 53, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mrs. Mims was born and reared in Henry County, daughter of the late Joseph Oree Hancock and Osa Hendley Hancock. She moved to the Union Community in 1947 and was a member of the Union Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Mims was formerly employed by WestPoint Stevens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Wesley Mims, Sr., two sisters, Nell Bedsole and Mary Lou Beasley, and four brothers, Jessie Hancock, Clyde H. Hancock, Wilford Hancock and William Hancock.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Tom W. Mims, Jr. (Paula); and Robert Max Mims, all of Abbeville; three sisters, Maggie Carter, Teenie Harpe Tapley and Peggy Culpepper, all of Abbeville; sisters-in-law, Gisela Hancock, Judy Hancock and Birdie Mae Hancock; three grandchildren, Casey Leigh Mims, Ashley Mims Cain (Robby) and Chris Mims (Keely); six great-grandchildren, Mary Hinson Mims, Kathryn King Mims, Charles Davis Mims, Gage Cain, Aiden Cain and Maeleigh Kate Cain.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Andy Harpe, Billy Wayne Bedsole, Everett Culpepper, Davis Mims, Cade Newton and Cole Newton.
