Ruby Jewel Tedder, the woman whose laughter could light up the darkest room and whose spirit was as fiery as her name, took her final bow on October 1, 2024. Born on December 14, 1959, in Midland City, Alabama, Ruby lived a life filled with the kind of joy and adventure that most people only read about in novels or see in feel-good movies.
As the life of every party, Ruby never missed an opportunity to turn a dull moment into a memorable one. Her zest for life was contagious, and her sense of humor was as sharp as a tack. Ruby was the kind of person who could find humor in just about anything, and she shared that gift generously, ensuring that laughter was a constant soundtrack to the lives of those around her.
Ruby's adventurous spirit took her to many places, but her heart always navigated her back to Midland City, the place she proudly called home. She was a homemaker and a housekeeper, but those titles barely scratched the surface of the hurricane of energy and love that she was. Her family, including her siblings Lorraine Barrett, Cody Chandler (Cosette), Ouida Key (Steve), and Wesley Dillard (Debbie), knew her as the sister who could turn even the most mundane family gathering into an unforgettable shindig.
Though she has joined her parents, Arthor Preston and Ocie Irene Chandler, siblings, Jeffery James Chandler, Preston Chandler, and Betty Jean Blankenship, along with her beloved daughter Shannon Cain and grandchild Rain Whigham, in the great party in the sky, Ruby's legacy continues through her daughter Dana Whigham (Sapp) and her grandchildren Brody Cain, McKenzie Cain, and Gage Whigham. These lucky folks got front-row seats to the Ruby show, and her lessons in laughter and love will echo through their lives forever.
Ruby was a fun-loving lady who had a relationship with Jesus that was as real and vibrant as her fiery personality. She loved to blast her music, with George Strait and Tanya Tucker being among her favorite artists. Her younger days were spent crocheting, creating intricate patterns that mirrored the complexity and beauty of her soul.
As Ruby makes her way to the ultimate destination, we imagine her arriving with the same flair and fervor that she lived her life, perhaps even kicking up her heels to a heavenly hoedown. While we mourn the loss of Ruby Jewel Tedder, we also celebrate the indelible mark she left on this world.
Her laughter will be missed, her stories will be retold, and her memory will be cherished. Ruby, thank you for teaching us that life is not about the number of breaths we take, but about the moments that take our breath away. Your final curtain call may have come, but the encore of your influence will continue for generations. Rest in peace, dear Ruby, and may your journey be filled with the same joy and laughter you shared with us all.
