Ruby Sweatt Rogers died at age 98 in the Wesley Manor Nursing Home in Dothan Tuesday, January 24, 2012.
She was born in Geneva County. Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter H. and Jessie Hinson Sweatt and her step- mother Lavada Sweatt. All her siblings are deceased: Gladys Tew, Dixie Blue, Otis Sweatt, Millard Sweatt and Jessie Schott. Also preceding her in death were her husbands ; Walter Kirkland, T. B. Hemby and P. M. (Mac) Rogers.
She is survived by the following step children; Vicki Andress, Sandra Howell, Evelyn Mullins and Dawsey Hemby. She is also survived by nieces and nephews; Earl Tew, Patsy Richardson, Martha Popwell, Danny Sweatt and Doris Dean.
Mrs. Rogers loved to fish, garden and to travel. The loving care of her flowers produced blooms throughout the year. She cherished her friends, with whom she attended Sunday School , enjoyed card games and bowling. She took a number of tours including Hawaii, the Scandinavian Countries, Jordan, Israel and Rome. She was a beautiful lady who dressed to the tens.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 11 A. M. at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Earl Tew and Reverend John Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home Directing. Visitation will be from 10 A. M. until 11 A. M. one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be; Steve Butler, J. W. Butler, John Kolkman and Nathan Kolkman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greystone United Methodist Church
