Ruffin Lee “R.L.” Porter Reeves was a caring mother, sister, and friend. She peacefully transitioned to her Heavenly Home May 24, 2021.
She was born to the late Charlie Lee Porter III and the late R’Dell Whatley Porter on March 22, 1939, in Shorterville, AL. At a very young age, R.L. was baptized and joined Old Friendship A.M.E. Church in Shorterville, AL. R.L. devoted her time serving as President of the Missionary Board and was later appointed as Trustee of the church. She was a faithful servant to the church and her community.
R.L. graduated Henry County Training School as Valedictorian of her class in 1956. She continued her education at Daniel Payne College in Birmingham, AL. She furthered her Education and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL. She loved learning and she adored children. She spent over 20 years teaching children in Alabama and in Georgia. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and solving crossword puzzles.
R.L. was preceded in death by two brothers: Willie Lee Porter and Delmus C. Porter, Sr. She is survived by two loving children: Cornell Reeves (Burlington, WA) and Katina Reeves (Shorterville, AL).
She leaves to cherish her beloved family and friends: Her dear Aunt Irene Whatley (Abbeville, AL); Two nieces: Cynthia Porter (Shorterville, AL) and Rheadall Porter (Abbeville, AL); Two nephews: Alvin Jerome Porter, Sr. (Shorterville, AL) and Delmus C. Porter, Jr. (Indianapolis, IN); Two devoted cousins: Vinetta Whatley Lynn (Shorterville, AL) and Zera Fields Littleton (Ft. Gaines, GA); Two loving sister in laws Earnestine Porter (Indianapolis, IN) and Mary Ella Porter (Shorterville, AL); George Kennedy (Shorterville, AL) whom she considered as her son; 4 great nieces and 2 great nephews, 2 great great nieces and 1 great great nephew, 1 great great great nephew, and a host of loving cousins and friends.
R.L. was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
