COLUMBIA. . .Rufus (Buster) Brackin, Jr., a resident of Columbia, died early Monday morning, May 15, 2017, in Wesley Place on Honeysuckle in Dothan. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, near Columbia, with Reverend Freddie McCain and Reverend Mark Brackin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Emily Hunter, 3140 Hunter Road, Columbia, AL 36319.
Mr. Brackin was a lifelong resident of Houston County, near Columbia, son of the late Rufus Brackin, Sr. and Verna Mildred Smith Brackin. He served his country in the U. S. Army from 1955 until 1957. Mr. Brackin was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Columbia Masonic Lodge No. 135. He was retired as a carpenter at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant. In earlier years, Mr. Brackin was engaged in farming and as a carpenter in residential and commercial construction. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karolina (Lena) Brackin, four sisters, Frances Holmes, Mildred Newman, Betty Jean Parker and Henrietta Gray.
Surviving relatives include three sisters, Shirley Bumpus, Columbia; Nelda Prokopchuk (Don), Panama City; and Cathy Ross (Bobby), Headland; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, John Parker (Marsha), Columbia; a special great-nephew, Nathan Parker.
