Russ Whitington, age 81 of Geneva, Alabama, passed away peacefully Wednesday Jan 11th in his home with his wife Lynda and son Dustin at his side after a five month battle with cancer. He was always more concerned about his family’s grief until the very end. He leaves a void in our hearts.
Before moving to Alabama, Russ had lived in Charleston, IL for over 35 years. Owner of Russ and Lynda’s restaurant, he was better known as the "chicken man". Russ was passionate about his customers and employees and always went that extra mile to please them. He had many fond memories of all the people who walked through the doors.
Russ was born April 27th 1935 in Danville, IL. Son of Charles and Ella Whitington. He married Lynda Thacker and they were blessed with two sons Ron (granddaughter Romy) and Dustin (grandson Charlie). After retiring in 2010, Russ and Lynda traveled and settled in Geneva, AL to be closer to their sons and sister Barb White. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden until he became ill.
Survivors include his wife Lynda and their sons Ron Whitington and Dustin Whitington (Crystal). Daughters Vicki Smith (Darrell), Janet Graves (Tim), Susie Whitington, son Rusty Whitington (Dee), brother Jimmy Whitington (Charlotte), sisters Barb White, Atha Brown (Mike), grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Charlie and Ella Whitington, Brothers Charles, Larry, Ronnie, John, Garry, Terry, Danny, and sister Naomi.
Memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Lime Springs Methodist in Samson, AL on Jan 21st at 11:30 am with service at 1:00 pm with Rev. Chris Adams. Flowers and condolences may be sent to The Whitingtons, 203 N. Glenn St, Geneva AL, 36340.
