Ruth Ellen Buie
Ruth Ellen Buie, of Dothan, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, January 2, 2016, at her residence. She was 92.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Heritage Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bastien officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 on Monday. An additional visitation will be held from 1-1:45 on Tuesday prior to service time at the church.
Mrs. Buie was born June 3, 1923 in Ashford to O. S. and Ludie Mae Nowell and was a graduate of Ashford High School. She lived most all of her adult life in Dothan. Mrs. Buie was a Master Gardener, could grow anything, and was known for her beautiful flowers. She was a member of the Camellia Garden Club and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church and having a special love for children, she served as a pre-school Sunday School Teacher there for many years. She also enjoyed the shut-in ministry and sharing her beautiful flowers as she visited. Mrs. Buie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, H. W. Buie, and brothers and sisters, Jean Burch, Annie Merle Mills, O.S. Nowell, Jr., Tommy Nowell and Raymond Nowell.
Survivors include five children, Cynthia Buie Collins (Charles), Orlando, FL, Danny Wilburn Buie (JoAnn), Auburn, AL, Donna Ruth Richards (David), of Perkinston, MS, Walton Oscar Buie (Jo Ann), of Huntsville, William David Buie (Sherry), of Dothan; grandchildren, Laura Collins Parkins, Aimee Collins Hitchner, Christopher Buie, Victoria Buie Jacobson and Angela Buie; great grandchildren, Carl Hitchner and Lucy Hitchner; brothers and sisters, Breal Johnson of Selma, Faye Watkins of Dothan, Gloria Ann Mosley of Elba and Jerry Nowell of Daleville.
