DOTHAN…Ruth Jernigan Hand, a resident of Gadsden, Alabama, formerly of Dothan, died Tuesday afternoon, July 10, 2018, in Gadsden. She was 91.


  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 13, 2018 in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Allie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.


  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


  Ruth Jernigan Hand was born in Winter Park, Florida and reared in Columbia, Alabama. She formerly lived in Florida, Louisiana, and North Carolina before moving to Dothan in 1983. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dothan and a former member of the Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hand is preceded in death by her husband, Isaac William “Bill” Hand; son, Michael Hopkins Hand; her father, Laurel Washington Jernigan; her mother, Flora Marie Singletary Jernigan; her step-mother, Florence Pitts Jernigan; a sister, DeLone Jernigan Henley; and two brothers, Edwin F. Jernigan and Blake B. Jernigan.


  Surviving relatives include a daughter-in-law, Sally Bishop Hand Sterling, Ft. Payne, AL; two sisters, Emily J. Hunter, Columbia, AL; and Ann Johnson, Webb, AL; two grandsons, William Stanley Hand and his wife Angie; and John David Hand; and three great-grandchildren, Mary Grace Hand, Anna-Leigh Hand, and Claire Hand.
