HEADLAND. . .Ruth K. Simmons, a resident of Headland, went to be with her Lord, early Friday afternoon, August 12, 2016, at her home. She was 73.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 14, 2016, in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Brother Joe Watson, Brother Harlan King, Reverend Ron Baker and Reverend Ricky Sowell officiating with eulogies to be given by the children, Stephanie Lamm and Jeff Simmons. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary. Graveside services will follow at 5:30 P.M. Sunday in the Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens in Opp, Alabama with Reverend Dwayne Seay officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund, 2506 State Highway 134, East, Headland, AL 36345 or to the First Baptist Church of Headland “Bridge To Tomorrow” Building Fund, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL 36345, or to the Newville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 25, Newville, AL 36353 or to Covenant Care, 1512 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Ruth Kimbro Simmons was born January 17, 1943 in Crenshaw County, Alabama, daughter of the late James Dalton Kimbro and Sarah Gertrude Kilpatrick Kimbro. She grew up in Kinston, Alabama where she graduated from high school. She married Norman Simmons and they moved to Milton, Florida where they began their family.  She formerly lived in Kinston, Tuscumbia, Huntsville, Headland and Montgomery before returning to Headland in 2006. Ruth was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Headland.


            Ruth demonstrated the strongest of love in giving her husband faithful support when he was called into full time Christian ministry as a Pastor. She lived out the meaning of being a “helpmate” and made it possible for her husband to have over forty-two years of successful pastoral ministry. Ruth was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Wendell Blount, a sister-in-law, Glenda Kimbro, a niece, Nicole Blount Golden, and a nephew, Devin Blount.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Reverend Norman C. Simmons; a daughter, Stephanie Lamm (Ron), Meridianville, AL; a son, Jeff Simmons (Robyn), Decatur, AL; two sisters, Glenda Clark (Charlie), Kinston, AL; and Wynette Blount, Midland City, AL; two brothers, David Kimbro (Leila), Athens, TN; and Terry Kimbro, Irwin, Idaho; a brother-in-law, Monroe Simmons (Betty), Bossier City, LA; four grandchildren, Cassidy Lamm, Ryan Lamm, Rydge Lamm and Sara Littleton; two step-grandchildren, Owen and Beth Trippany; two nieces, Faith Ann Simmons and Melanie Lamunyan (Bill); six nephews, Rodney Clark (Laura), John Kimbro (Leah), Joey Kimbro (Devori), Chris Kimbro, Doyce Blount (Renee) and Daniel Blount (Teesa).


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Ryan Lamm, Rydge Lamm, Owen Trippany, Doyce Blount, Bill Lamunyan , John Kimbro , Joey Kimbro and Rodney Clark.
