ABBEVILLE…Sallie Tye Riley, a resident of Abbeville, died late Wednesday morning, April 6, 2016, at her home. She was 89.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 8, 2016, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend George Bryan and Reverend Ryan Johnson officiating and a eulogy to be given by Darden Kirby. Burial will follow in the Old Center United Methodist Church Cemetery, near Newville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Abbeville, P.O. Box 606, Abbeville, Alabama 36310.
Mrs. Riley was born and reared in Shorterville, daughter of the late Robert Pearson Tye and Minnie Wood Tye. Mrs. Riley was a graduate of Abbeville High School and attended Riley Business College in Dothan. She lived in Abbeville most of her lifetime where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Riley retired from Regions Bank in Ft. Gaines as a Bank Teller. She was a faithful Minister’s wife and served with her late husband, Reverend William Olen Riley, who pastored Southern Baptist Churches in Henry, Dale and Barbour Counties. Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Paul Tye.
Surviving relatives include two sisters, Bobbye Phillips, Shorterville; and Polly Griner, Athens, GA; sisters-in-law, Valeta Chancey, Jean Williams, and Patricia Douglas; brother-in-law, Clyde Riley (Carolyn); several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Debbie Weems.
